Parrot and Health

Health is very important for you parrot. Parrots should be healthy, only then they can be your good companion in life. Here are some tips to ensure good health of your parrot and keep it healthy.

General Health Tips

Each parrot species is special and wonderful in its own style. They need special care and attention. When you buy a new bird, make sure that it is healthy. A sick parrot is not the one to buy, no matter how beautiful it is and what is its price. To get a healthy pet, you should bring your bird from a reliable bird store or breeder.

Signs of good health in your bird are bright eyes, clean and shining feathers, good appetite and vigorous energy. Healthy birds eat nicely, play with toys and are very active. The most domesticated and best talking pet birds always remain healthy.

If you feel your bird is not healthy, take it to the veterinary immediately. By the time a bird shows disease symptoms, its illness has become really advanced. If you feel the bird is appearing droopy, tired ruffled, sneezing, sitting down in her cage, or is hiding head under wings, the bird is not healthy at all. If you see a discharge above nostrils or droppings stuck to tail feathers, there can be big problems with her health. If the bird makes clicking sounds while breathing or if its tail docks, the bird may be suffering from serious respiratory disease.

Take your pet bird to avian veterinarian to get a "well bird check up" done regularly. While, the bird’s check up, avian vet may advise you about diet, training, maintenance, hygiene and medical requirements. Be cautious about the pet stores which claim that the bird does not need any medical attention. Routine health check up is important for all pet birds, especially when they are newly purchased and again every year. If it is recently that you have bought the bird, the pet store may allow you to return the unwell bird.

Feeding

Feeding is very important to ensure good health of your bird. Feed your new bird with hygienic and best quality food. Correct feeding is the most important part of birds’ future health and life as a pet. Good nutrition and good health are interlinked to each other.

Bring forth good eating habits in your bird immediately. You must give your new bird good eating habits at the time when it spends first three weeks with you. You should help your bird to be able to adjust with the new food and its new habitat as soon as possible.

Give your bird clean seed and clean water always. You can blend health supplements, such as Turbobooster and F-vite with the seed. On the same, you have to make sure that your bird is accepting new tastes and is eating the seeds actually. Clean the floor of the cage with cage cleaner daily. This is the best way to monitor dropping health closely.
