Grey Parrot or African Grey Parrot generally called as the “cadillac of parrots,” is a mix of beauty and brains. It is an exotic bird that you can also get to see in the bird sanctuaries. African Grey parrot is 13 inches in length with a small tail. It has an average lifespan of 50 to 65 years.
Senegal is a sweet bird, a favorite pet for many bird lovers. They are darlings who give a good company to their owners. In the wild areas, you can mostly see it in the edges of wooded areas and savannah or grassland areas. The mature Senegal parrot is generally eight to nine inches in length and lives for about 20 and 30 years.
Meyer’s Parrot or Poicephalus meyeri, is a small and stout African parrot. It is native to central and eastern sub Saharan Africa. It is mostly found in woodlands, such as savannah woodlands, wooded grasslands and forests near watercourses or agricultural grounds. Having about 21 cm body, it has dull brown head, back and tail and a grayish black beak.
The Rüppell's parrot or Poicephalus ruppellii are a recent collection as pets. Having a small range in coastal south-western Africa, in Namibia and nearby south-western part of Angola, the parrot is peregrine to some extent.
Brown Headed parrots or Poicephalus cryptoxanthus is a green bird native to the eastern South Africa and are found in different parts of South Africa, Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania, Mali, Zimbabwe, Zululand, and the islands of Zanzibar and Pemba. It has an attractive brown grey head.
The Niam Niam or Poicephalus crassus are similar in color and shape to the Brown headed. It is native to The Central African Republic, Chad, Sudan and Zaire. Poicephalus, exactly means ‘made of head’. It has bright green body and brown head.
Red Bellied parrot is an attractive, small sized parrot native to Ethiopia, Tanzania, Somalia and Africa. It is believed to be originated from Tanzania and belongs to the same genus as the BrownHead, Meyers and Senegal.
The Yellow faced Parrot or Salvatoria xanthops is native to Brazil and Bolivia. This yellow facing parrot is the rarest and largest species of parrotlet. It weighs 50 grams and is about six inches in length.
Jardines parrot or Poicephalus gulielmi is one of the most beautiful parrots of all African parrots. Native to Central Africa, Cameroon, Angola east to south west Uganda, it is large in size than others. The body of Jardines parrot is bright green with red rings just about the bottoms of their leg feathers.
Cape Parrot or Poicephalus robustus robustus is native to South Africa. It is known as ‘Gentle Giants’ and is an intelligent bird. It is a medium-sized parrot that stands 30 cm high and can weigh up to 350g.
